The Minnesota Humanities Center believes that the achievement gap can be bridged through the dedicated work of educators and administrators. For this reason, the Humanities Center, along with Normandale Community College and the University of Minnesota Department of African American and African Studies, held a two-day intensive workshop in August 2009 for Minnesota’s K-12 educators and school administrators titled Cultural Competency: Equity and the Future of Black Education.
A year’s worth of follow up activities has been planned for participants of the two-day workshop. Activities will include in-person workshops, message board discussions and online chats.
