Are you an elementary teacher looking for new ways to introduce American Indian literature into your classroom? This workshop will address the literary traditions and contributions of American Indians with an emphasis on Dakota and Ojibwe children's literature. During this interactive workshop we will explore traditional storytelling techniques and investigate different types of literature. All of the literature examined in this workshop will show "respect for, and understanding of the sophistication and complexities of Native Societies" ( Oyate.org). Through group projects and hands-on activities we will discuss how to incorporate new materials into current lesson plans while complying with state standards. Participants will have access to new resources, materials, and tools to help improve student learning in the classroom.
