This two-day workshop will focus on the National Endowment for the Humanities Picturing America program.  This offering will help teachers and librarians learn about American art images and ways to involve American art, architecture, photography and cultural artifacts in stimulating reading and in the teaching of social studies, writing, literature, geography, civics, art, and other subjects.

Participants will explore American art history and culture in the sessions.  One of the sessions will be at the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts attending an exciting new exhibition of American Indian material, From Our Ancestors: Art of the White Clay People, opening in December.  Other sessions will introduce you to electronic and book resources on American art and culture led by Craig Farmer, master teacher in the K-12 use of art history and electronic resources.  Matthew Rohn and Jim Farrell, St. Olaf College professors in American Studies, Art History and History, will share their expertise, and participants will trade ideas and resources while brainstorming about lesson plans and teaching strategies.

Graduate credit will be available through Hamline University for an additional fee of $119. More information about graduate credit will be available during the workshop.
