The Veterans’ Voices Award recognizes, amplifies, and honors Minnesotans who have honorably served and are making extraordinary contributions to their communities. These actively engaged former and current military service members are thriving and making significant contributions that improve the lives of people across Minnesota.
Who Can Be Nominated?
Nominees must be a current or former military service member living in Minnesota and be able to attend the September 11, 2017 awards ceremony. All anonymous nominations will be confirmed by the nominee if selected.
An independent review panel will be selecting up to 20 awardees based on the following criteria. The nominee must:
Be actively involved and making significant contributions in their community above and beyond what may be expected of them.
Exemplify the mission and the four core values of the Humanities Center:
Mission: To build a thoughtful, literate, and engaged society
Core Values: Build and strengthen relationships; recognize the power of story and the danger of absence; learn from and with multiple voices; and amplify community solutions for change.
While the panel will only be reviewing the nominations based on the parameters of the narrative questions and the review criteria as published above, the panel may consider the diversity of the overall awardee cohort, to include race/ethnicity, gender, and/or overall geographic reach of the awardees.
The following criteria will render a nominee/nomination ineligible:
Nominations for previous Veterans’ Voices Awardees .
Nominations by or for Humanities Center staff, board members, fellows, and consultants.
Nominations received after the 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017
Nominee is unable to attend September 11 award ceremony and/or unwilling to have their story made public.

All nominations must be received online or postmarked by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017.
Selected awardees will be notified no later than July 11, 2017. Please note: Due to the large volume of nominations, only selected awardees will be contacted.
The Minnesota Humanities Center will be hosting information sessions in St. Paul and Little Falls for interested nominators to review eligibility requirements, online nomination system, and learn tips for applying. Nominators can bring their draft nominations for review. Attending a session will not factor into the evaluation of your nomination.
